Riccardo Casati graduated in Mechanical Engineering with a thesis on aluminium die casting and received a M.Sc. degree in Materials Engineering with a thesis on thermo-mechanical cycling of shape memory alloys at the Politecnico di Milano. He spent six months working as visiting Ph.D. student at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Melbourne and he received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano with a thesis on aluminium matrix nanocomposites. He worked as research assistant at the National Research Council (CNR) laboratories for more than three years. He was also visiting researcher for six months at the Materials Science and Engineering Department of the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in South Korea working on dual phase steels. In 2015, he joined Materials group of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano as assistant professor. He is member of the "Physical metallurgy and materials science” and the “Powder metallurgy” technical committees of the Italian Association for Metallurgy and he is co-author of more than sixty scientific papers published on journals and conference proceedings. His research activity is currently focused on the study of microstructural evolution and mechanical behaviour of metallic materials and composites produced by conventional processes and additive manufacturing.
