Graduated at Politecnico di Milan in 2000, he received the PhD in Applied Mechanics in 2004. In January 2001 he received a grant for research on “Vibrations of mechanical systems (Diagnostics)” at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano. In February 2005 he was appointed Researcher at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano and he has been Associate Professor of Applied Mechanics since December 2014. Author of more than 100 scientific publications, his research activity is in the fields of dynamics, control and diagnostics of mechanical systems, with applications to the dynamics of railway vehicles and to the dynamics of floating offshore wind turbines. In particular, as regards railway vehicles, research deals with running dynamics and comfort, active suspensions, vehicle and infrastructure diagnostics and pantograph-catenary interaction. As regards floating offshore wind turbines, the research focuses on the development of Hardware-in-the-Loop methodologies for the analysis of the overall dynamics by means of wind tunnel experiments. On these topics he participated and participates, also with coordination roles, to several research projects funded by the industry and by the European Community. He is member of various IEC and CENELEC working groups on pantograph-catenary interaction.
