Riccardo Casati is Associate Professor of metallurgy at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano. His research deals with the evolution of microstructure and mechanical behavior of metallic materials during manufacturing and service. In recent years, his scientific activity has focused on alloys and composites produced by powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing processes.
Riccardo Casati graduated in Mechanical Engineering with a thesis on aluminum die casting and received a Master degree in Materials Engineering with a thesis on functional properties of shape memory alloys at the Politecnico di Milano. He was visiting Ph.D. student at the University of Melbourne, in Australia, and he received a Ph.D. with honors in Mechanical Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano with a thesis on aluminum matrix nanocomposites. He worked at the National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - CNR) laboratories in Lecco and at the POSTECH university of Pohang in South Korea. He is member of the "Physical metallurgy and materials science” and “Powder metallurgy and Additive manufacturing” technical committees of the Italian Society for Metallurgy (Associazione Italiana di Metallurgia - AIM) and he is co-author of more than eighty scientific papers published in scientific journals and conference proceedings.
