Bianca Maria Colosimo is full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI). The Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano is ranked first in Italy, 3rd Europe and 7th worldwide (QS- Ranking 2019 – Eng. Mech., Aer. & Manuf.). Politecnico di Milano is the first Engineering school in Italy, ranked 6th in Europe and 16th worldwide (QS World University Ranking 2019 – Engineering and Technology).
Since 2018, she is Editor of the Journal of Quality Technology, one of the top scientific journals in Statistics & Engineeringand mentioned as one of the 100 experts in STEM in Italy.
She is Deputy-Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering with special focus on research. She is also member of the Rector’s board POLIMI2040, a team appointed to design the strategic agenda of the university in the next decade. Within Europe, she is member of the strategic platform Manufuture, of the Steerring Committe Vanguard on 3D Printing. She is also representing Polimi in the technical-scientific committee of MADE, the competence center cofounded by the Italian Ministry of industry.
Her main research interest is in the area of industrial statistics, focusing on (big) data modelling, monitoring and control for advanced manufacturing applications, additive manufacturing or 3D printing among all. On these topics, she is author or coauthor of more than 130 (peer-reviewed) contributions appeared in scientific journals, books and conference proceedings.
She is currently principal investigator/co-investigator of three research projects funded by the European Community on advanced statistical methods for Additive Manufacturing.
