How AI in manufacturing can unlock interregional value chains

On March 25th, the Department of Mechanical Engineering took part in the dissemination event of the SMART-Growth project in Sardinia — a great opportunity to explore how the I3 instrument supports innovation-driven regional development.
The SMART-Growth project brings together companies and research institutions to co-develop cutting-edge solutions — from sustainable growth of laser crystals to AI-powered production systems — with the goal of building strategic, interregional value chains across Europe.
DEMC contributed two talks to the event.
In the first, Prof. marcello colledani explored how #ArtificialIntelligence and Zero-Defect Manufacturing can support sustainable production practices. In the second, we joined a discussion on potential interregional value chains that can scale across regions to unlock new industrial pathways — presenting eight synergetic cases that would benefit from SMART-Growth results.
