Researcher

Marco Mariani is currently working as Junior Researcher (RTDA) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano, within the interdepartmental laboratory "FUNTASMA - Functional Sintered Materials."
After earning a degree in Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology, he obtained a Ph.D. with honors in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, under the supervision of Prof. Nora Lecis. He also conducted a research period at CSIC-ICV in Madrid, in the group led by Prof. Ferrari.
His research interests primarily focus on additive manufacturing techniques based on sintering, particularly binder jetting and inkjet printing, as well as thermal treatments for the mechanical strengthening of metal alloys and the production of multimaterial ceramics in both bulk and thin-film forms. He contributes to projects ranging from the production of stainless steel components for the biomedical sector to the development of functional and piezoelectric ceramics for applications in electronics and clean energy industries.
Since 2019, he has been working as a teaching assistant for the courses "Metallurgy and Non-Metallic Materials" and "Surface Treatments for Engineering Applications" (Mechanical Engineering) as well as "Surface Treatments for Mechanical Applications" (Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology). Additionally, he has co-supervised master's students throughout their academic journey.
In 2024, he was awarded the Felice De Carli Prize by the Italian Association of Metallurgy, a recognition dedicated to young researchers who have demonstrated excellence in the field of fundamental and applied metallurgy.
