Associate Professor

Marco Simonelli joined the Manufacturing Group as an Associate Professor in 2025. Prior to this post, he was first an Assistant Professor and then Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham (UK) between 2021-2025, where he conducted research on digital materials designed site-specifically through process modelling and computational thermodynamics via laser-based additive manufacturing. As a Nottingham Research Fellowship (between 2018-2021), he worked to establish a research programme on titanium alloy design for use in metal additive manufacturing. Prior to that, he conducted two post-doctoral appointments to develop new materials for metal additive manufacturing and a novel high-temperature metal jetting technique. He began his postgraduate career in 2010 at Loughborough University, where he earned a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering in laser additive manufacturing.
