Vehicle Design and Testing

The research group focuses on theoretical and experimental aspects related to the design and construction of ground vehicles. These activities pertain to the modeling, optimal design, autonomous driving, construction, and control of ground vehicles and their subsystems or specific laboratory devices.

Below is a brief overview of the main research activities carried out in this field:

- Optimal Design: Advanced design methods for complex systems and structural design (optimal design, multi-objective optimization, robust design, topological optimization, etc.) with applications in the design of systems and subsystems for ground vehicles.

- Vehicle Design and Engineering:

  • Theoretical and experimental methods for the construction of vehicles and their subsystems: active and passive safety;
  • Design for performance and sustainability;
  • Comfort, testing, and modeling;
  • Design and construction of eco-friendly vehicles;
  • Experimental mechanics, force measurement, measurement of the inertial properties of vehicles and subsystems;
  • Development of devices to improve the passive safety of vehicles.

The research group is one of the main promoters of DriSMi – Driving Simulator of Politecnico di Milano, the world's first installation of the DiM400, the most innovative driving simulator model currently available on the market, co-financed by Regione Lombardia.
