Mechanical and Thermal Measurements

Development and testing of advanced measurement techniques with applications in: structural health monitoring of buildings and mechanical systems; spectrometry and measurement of dust and condensates for space applications (e.g., PFS-MarsExpress, MicroMED for ExoMars 2022, QCM “VISTA” for HERA, RIIFS and FISPEX for planetary exploration under ASI-INAF); vision-based measurement systems: thermal hyperspectral imaging, 3D measurements, Digital Image Correlation, 3D biometrics, 3D scanner calibration, vibration monitoring (including drones), automation, and robot guidance; Industry 4.0 measurements within the Joint Research Centre Metal and Transformation Technologies; medical and biomedical applications: fibre optic sensors, radiologic and hyperspectral imaging for laser oncology surgery (ERC LASER OPTIMAL project), heat transfer analysis in organs treated with lasers and nanoparticles, wearable systems for biomechanics monitoring; whole-body or hand-arm vibration measurements for worker exposure; electromechanical characterization for renewable energy sources; vibration control with smart materials (piezoelectric and magnetostrictive materials, shape memory alloys); human-structure interaction; acoustic measurements: sound localization, noise control, and psychoacoustic analysis.
